Synopsis

In the waning days of World War I, Marianne, a spirited French farm girl who runs an inn and cares for war orphans, finds herself torn between duty and desire. Promised to her fiancé André who's fighting on the front lines, she unexpectedly falls for Stagg, a charming American doughboy billeted in her village. When André returns from the war blind and broken, Marianne must choose between honoring her past commitment and following her heart to New York's "Second Forty Street" in this early talkie musical featuring Marion Davies' first talking performance.
